Can Social Media Alerts Please Be Gentle Again!

How would a Lava Lamp designed today connect to Facebook, or Pinterest, or any of the other social media sites? Does that even make sense?! Of course it does, in a couple of ways.

SocialConnection

First, my iPhone must sound an alarm about 30 times every day to get my attention. Oh! Someone just posted to Facebook about how they hate the coverage of Chelsea Clinton’s new baby. A minute later a Pinterest follower repins my pin of Dave Avanzino’s amazing Disney paper art. Why does it keep interrupting my life!

The last thing any of us need is more notifications when stuff on our social networks happens. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, and FourSquare all demand your attention.  We much prefer the Waves way of notifications: They are calming and gentle.

Waves connections to these social sites mean the light and sound shows change depending on what is happening in my social media life. When I have a hard day at the office and Tweet “My work is so hard today”, Waves sees the Tweet and knows the words “work” and “hard” tell me it is time to play a soothing calming show.

And it’s not just my life Waves observes. Set Waves events to run a show when a friend checks-in on Facebook, your kid posts a video to YouTube, your wife reviews a restaurant on Yelp. Waves observes our lives and responds with theater, sometimes dramatic, mostly calming.

The Votsh Waves project on Kickstarter would be a good way for you to get started. It’s at http://bit.ly/waveskickstarter and ships to your home or business by the end of 2014.
